Top Invasives and Native Alternatives

Do you know what’s growing in your yard? Have you unintentionally planted an invasive species that poses a continual and ongoing threat to our environment? Please consider surveying your home landscapes for any of these bad actors and targeting them for removal.
Each one of these top  invasive plants commonly found in home landscapes is listed as highly invasive by the Indiana Invasive Species Council and three are currently banned by the Indiana Terrestrial Plants rule.

Learn more about how to remove these invasives on the management page.

The Indiana Terrestrial Plant Rule (312 IAC 18-3-25) designates 44 species of plants as invasive pests. This rule makes it illegal to sell, gift, barter, exchange, distribute, transport, or introduce these plants in the State of Indiana.
