Darlene - Potter's Bridge
Hello! I’m Darlene.
I am an avid nature lover. During my time working as a Noblesville public school teacher, I used my vacation days to travel and explore magical wild places including the Canadian arctic and the Peruvian rainforest. Boy! I have seen some amazing flora and fauna. I am also a potter who enjoys manipulating clay (an actual piece of the earth) on the potter’s wheel, as well as, hand-building. What I’m Doing Although I love all the Hamilton County parks, and fortunately there are a lot of them, my primary focus will be to help eradicate and maintain the invasive plants at Potter’s Bridge Park. We live close to that park and spend a lot of time enjoying the trail, which makes it a good place for me to get started as a park steward. How I Got Involved When I moved to Noblesville in 1990, I was the art teacher at North Elementary and Forest Hill Elementary. Potter’s Bridge had not yet been established. That happened in 1998. When they started refurbishing the bridge and building the park, I remember someone saying, “Why are they wasting money building that park? Nobody will use it!!” Boy was he WRONG!! The park is loved and used by so many making it a prime target to get some love and affection in return. Over the years, the flora at the park has changed dramatically. Invasives moved in and grown at a fast rate obscuring the view of the river. What a shame! The stewards are reversing that problem making the trail and park more beautiful and returning the land back to its proper natural, native state. Why It Matters to Me I joined the Potter’s Bridge Stewards in the winter of 2025. Being a part of that group and the work they do feels good and right. The flora and fauna need all the human help they can get. I am glad to play an active role in something positive that benefits my family, friends, and potential friendsin Hamilton County. Community service, especially something that benefits Mother Nature, is key to a better life on this planet. Resources for You to Get Involved
